"There's more," Felipe began, interlocking his fingers, "the unidentified male isn't really unidentified," he continued, reluctant to say it but knowing he had to. The pause seemed to last for too long, the familiar ticking of the same round clock on the wall, duplicated in every office in the facility, filled the void between confessions.

"It was the DDS guy," Tice concluded, his voice defeated and his eyes closed, tilting his head back to display the gray five-o-clock shadow under his chin.

Felipe didn't need to confirm it, the man knew from the silence that greeted his suspicion.

"Fuck!" Tice growled through gritted teeth.

"I know, I know," Felipe leaned back again in his seat, the thin cotton of his white shirt the only barrier between his skin and the padded rest, he felt the coolness of it penetrating through the material, "but Kris didn't know until we cornered Williams in his hotel room. There was no way to know, really. I mean, what was the guy doing getting so close to Williams? He was right there, Kris watched Williams show him the image and then... Why was he interacting with Williams at all? He was supposed to be out of sight, not standing right next to him." His frustration was clear in his words, almost spitting, "I mean, the guy's a fucking federal agent, how incompetent are they?"

"The same can be said for Mr. Aanders!" Tice jerked forward, placing the piece of paper on the desk, an exhalation of exasperated annoyance escaping him. "He doesn't have the excuse of memetic influence, he's fucking immune! He voluntarily decided to risk the operation just because his dick got stiff?!"

Felipe didn't want to offer the nature of the facility and the project as an excuse, but he'd promised to defend the young man, and it was an easy option, "Let's be realistic," he began, "every guy here jerks off like a dope fiend, just the nature of this job," his voice was low, not quite accusatory but eager to remind Tice of his own incidents without verbalizing them, "none of us has any place preaching moralistically about this,"

In many respects, he was right. While all the team members had been trained to deal with the constant simmering memetic power coursing through their area of the facility, with every thought or typed word about OBJECT-6476 triggering the men on the team into spontaneous erections and dripping excitement, there was an ever-present sexual climate that could only be dealt with by stroking and shooting.

SYNOPSIS: After the dramatic encounter with Edwin Williams, Kris Aanders and Felipe Renier cover their tracks with their carefully worded report, omitting any mention of the identity of the man Kris and Edwin had masturbated with in the library men's room, or the pleasure they'd shared. With their story straight - and with the certainty that the Department of Domestic Security agent won't report his circle jerk encounter with Kris and Edwin to his own superiors - the time comes for Felipe to inform Tice Miller of the breach of protocol. Locked in Felipe's office, he explains the encounter, eager to defend the young man.
